Unless you’ve been travelling around our capital with your eyes closed (which we wouldn’t recommend!), then you will have probably already noticed the hug increase in the number of two wheels on the road. Figures from the Transport for London state the number of people cycling in the capital is now equal to a fifth of all daily tube passengers! They have also predicted that by 2018, cyclist will outnumber car drivers during London’s rush hour.
London’s cycle superhighways are new cycle routes across outer and central London. They offer safer, faster and more direct cycle routes into the city, offering a quick, inexpensive and healthy way to commute to work. This year has seen the opening of London’s longest segregated bike lane around London, from King’s Cross, Camden Town, Swiss Cottage, Canary Wharf, the West End, Barking and Elephant and Castle – all routes which have a designated cycle paths or low-traffic streets!
Whether you are a hardcore lycra loving cyclist or just a fair weathered rider, it’s an undeniable fact that the number of car drivers has dropped from 137,000 in 2000 to 64,000 in 2014, while the number of cyclists has tripled over the same time period, from 12,000 to 36,000!
