How’s My Driving? - Safe Driving Blog Tips
Fleet management has completely transformed over the last decade and even more so since the pandemic began. Now, more than ever, businesses can see the impact an efficient fleet can have on its overall business operation. It is no longer about just procuring and maintaining vehicles and drivers, fleet managers are now responsible for driver health, mental and physical, compliance management, training and personal development, operational efficiency, being brand ambassadors out on the roads, environmental impact and more.
So, what is meant by the term holistic fleet management? It’s simply being aware of all aspects of your fleet responsibilities, on and off the road, in and outside the vehicle and supporting your drivers physically and mentally.
What is sustainable fleet management?
In terms of sustainability fleet management will look at reducing the environmental impact through areas such as fuel-efficient driving, reducing traffic congestion and other considerations. This is something that can be hard to monitor and ultimately improve. How’s My Driving? offers the opportunity for fleet managers to monitor their drivers actions when they are out and about on the road.
Fleet managers are also responsible for keeping the fleet vehicles routinely serviced and maintained to ensure they are not only running as efficiently as possible, but that they are also as safe as possible. Our membership service includes checklists for daily inspections, maintenance, reporting, and more.
Sustainability within the fleet is growing ever-important, as it leads directly into other areas of your business such as reducing risk, corporate social responsibility, employee health and safety and business efficiency to name a few.
Driver focus
A large portion of fleet management is the management of the drivers, from monitoring and updating their driving qualifications to checking in on their mental health.
“As a business owner, it allows me to offer my drivers any extra support and training they need in a timely way which addresses a direct concern.”
Leo Burdock, Director, Ambulance Services 24
Whilst many fleets now have telematics to monitor their routes and driving style which are extremely accurate in aiding you in route planning, live GPS and fuel reduction, it cannot tell you how your drivers are feeling and acting on the road. As your brand ambassadors they are representing the company every time they get in the vehicle. Your driver may be being discourteous to other road users or in need of further specific driving CPD and the How’s My Driving? badge on the rear of the vehicle allows the public to comment on the driving style gives your company the opportunity to address them individually, preventing any further issues.
In cab cameras and telematics are great for obtaining confirmation and evidence once an incident has happened and will be really useful in your investigation into any incidents that are reported. The How’s My Driving? service is an opportunity to address any issues, as well as praising positive and safe driving.
