How’s My Driving? - Safe Driving Blog Tips
If you have just started your new career as an HGV driver, what advice should you take on board from experienced drivers?
Need help? Just ask! If you need assistance, don’t struggle on your own. When you start a new job, it can be the smallest things which cause you concern, but don’t forget there are plenty of experienced people all around you who can help. Every driver on your team will have been a new driver at some point and will know exactly how you feel.
Be safe, not sorry. Safety and road safety within the logistics and haulage industry is vital and should not be underestimated. Safety should always come first for yourself and other road users. If your company is using a road safety sticker scheme, such as How’s My Driving? and an incident is reported about your driving, be positive and take it as an opportunity to do things better or differently.
Move! As you are likely to be on the road and sitting in your cab for most of your working day, take any opportunities you can to move and exercise. It’s vital to stay healthy and fresh, so exercise when you can to keep circulation moving and help keep yourself alert at the wheel.
Relax! Working away from your home and family for long hours on the road can take their toll, so take care not to become too isolated and make the time to chat with your fellow colleagues.
