This month the government have opened public consultation centers focusing on discussing what changes need to be made to the highway code and insurance legislation to adapt to autonomous vehicles being on the road. The Government has already predicted that driverless cars with features such as motorway assist and remote control parking will be on sale in Britain within four years.

This August the UK Government will use an additional £30m from the Intelligent Mobility Fund, for research and development of innovative connected and autonomous vehicle technologies. With the extra funding and the public consultation now open, it’s hopeful that by the end of the year the government will have a clearer understanding of how the law and insurance legislation will allocate blame and responsibility in the event of an accident.
